What is your role on the CHILD team?
I support CHILD communication efforts: I write/edit/format content for reports, newsletters, social media, funding applications, press releases, etc. I design graphic art for the same, as well as for posters, handouts, event banners, slideshows, etc. And I built, maintain and develop content for the study’s website.
What do you enjoy most about your job?
Contributing to what I believe to be an important undertaking with real-world impacts: I take quite a bit of pride in merely being a part of CHILD. As for the work itself, I enjoy the creative aspects and the continuous technical learning required.
What hobbies or activities do you enjoy outside of work?
Spending time with family, literature, film (especially foreign and art house but also the occasional good horror movie), music (especially jazz), tending home and garden, and enjoying the incredible beauty of the west coast.
If you could travel anywhere in the world, where would you go and why?
Canada’s north for its rugged grandeur, and Vanuatu as it looks pretty close to being an earthy paradise.
If you could swap lives with anyone for a day, who would it be and why?
My sister’s cat, as then I would be the most spoiled entity on the planet. Or my kids, so I could know better how to be less annoying to them!
What is something about you that not many people know?
I’m fairly fluent in Spanish and find most food bland unless it is liberally enhanced with some form of potent capsaicin. I also grew a Rasputinesque COVID beard that remains legendary.
Marshall has worked on communications and web development with CHILD since 2013, when it was a project of the AllerGen network.
